It’s often said that history repeats itself, and it would appear that literary history—at least where Dennis Lehane is concerned—is no exception.

Moonlight RhapsodyThis book hits you like an elbow to the nose. You'll remember the shock and power of it for days to come. If you like a fast paced, hard hitting action story, with a definite touch of reality and soft touch of humanity, then you will really enjoy this latest suspense story by Dennis Lehane. This is a follow up to Lehane's, "Gone, Baby, Gone", a story of the kidnapping and recovery of a four year old girl. The story left off with the question of whether it was better to leave the child with the kindhearted kidnappers or return her to a dysfunctional mother. Twelve years later, the girl is missing again and P.I.'s Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro who found her before, are asked to find her again. The now married investigators are torn over the question of whether they did the right thing the fist time and whether they will be able to tell what is right this time.
Lehane's Latest ThrillerReview by Laura ReeseIf you liked Mystic River and Shutter Island, Dennis Lehane’s new thriller is one to put on your fiction wish list. Moonlight Mile picks up 12 years after Gone, Baby, Gone and brings back the husband and wife PI team of Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro.
The story begins with wisecracking Kenzie wrapping up a case using his wife as bait for a spoiled-brat son of a superior court judge. The couple decides to celebrate the small victory, and before the glow wears off, a three a.m. phone call from an old client threatens to send their lives off kilter.
More than a decade ago, Kenzie and Gennaro defied the odds and solved a Boston kidnapping case that made headlines. After locating four-year old Amanda McCready with loving but misguided abductors, Kenzie brings the girl back to her horribly-flawed, chronically intoxicated biological mother. It’s no surprise that Amanda’s missing again.
Amanda’s aunt pleads her case, but Patrick and Angie are far from thrilled at taking on the assignment. Patrick’s doing his best to look for stable employment, Angie’s finishing up classes for her master’s degree, and the couple is raising their daughter Gabby with occasional help from a lovable Sumo Wrestler-Security Guard-Manny named Bubba.
Despite many misgivings, Kenzie and Gennaro head off to find Amanda. They encounter, among other suspects, a lunatic crime boss, a Russian gangster, violent meth dealers, and one unsettling money-making scheme that involves Amanda, her family, and a medical doctor practicing without a license.
Lehane gets the plot moving with tough problems, some humor, demons from the past, and plenty of unsavory situations. If you don’t mind rough language, even rougher characters, and a twist ending for Kenzie and Gennaro, this book’s for you.
