Ave Maria Mulligan, local pharmacist, local drama director, unmarried at 35, and determinedly independent, is the lovable heroine of Adriana Trigiani's lovable novel, Big Stone Gap, which she reads in a truly authentic Big Stone Gap voice. It's a sweet story with some welcome rough edges, set in a wonderfully oddball Southern town a story of a good woman who finally finds her past, her way to the future, and the everyday joy of living and loving in the present.
