As part of our Best Books of 2012 coverage, our editors weigh in on some of their personal favorites from the list.

Novels dealing with painful subjects in a serious fashion might get more awards (not to mention nods from Oprah) but seriously good comic novels are much more rare.  A brilliantly executed comic novel told through emails, police reports and letters, Where'd You Go, Bernadette will make you laugh out loud, while still managing to touch your heart.
