On Friday the Romance Writers of America (RWA) announced the RITA and Golden Heart finalists. The RITA honors the best in the romance genre (the award is named for the first president of RWA), and the Golden Heart recognizes romance manuscripts that have not received an offer for publication.
BookPage runs a monthly romance column written by Christie Ridgway (herself a past RITA finalist), and in the last year we've covered several of the nominated books, such as:
- I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan; Pieces of Sky by Kaki Warner; and When Harry Met Molly by Kieran Kramer, all nominated for Best First Book.
- Edge of Sight by Roxanne St. Claire, nominated for Best Romantic Suspense.
- Happy Ever After by Nora Roberts, nominated for Best Contemporary Single Title Romance.
- Water Bound by Christine Feehan, nominated for best Paranormal Romance.
Find the complete list of nominees on the RWA website. Winners will be announced at the RWA conference on July 1 in New York City.
What's your favorite romance novel? Though I can't claim to being an aficionado of the genre, I do have happy memories of several delicious novels by Brenda Joyce and R.C. Ryan—usually read out loud on long car trips with girlfriends!
