March Madness might be exciting, but we bookworms have our own madness, as book tournament season has just begun!

Today is the opening round of the 8th Annual Morning News Tournament of Books, sponsored by Field Notes. This is the bloodiest head-to-head (or page-to-page) book battle out there—like if UFC took place in a library. Emma Straub awarded the first win to Julian Barnes' The Sense of an Ending (1) over Donald Ray Pollock's The Devil All the Time (4). And that's just the beginning, as the tournament goes on for 16 more rounds.

The 2nd annual Book Madness from Out of Print kicks off this Monday, March 12. In this tournament, your vote counts, as bibliophiles choose which book will advance to the next round. Last year, over 41,000 votes were cast, awarding To Kill a Mockingbird as the grand prize winner of all classics. This year, 64 books from 21st-century fiction battle it out, and after six rounds, one novel will be declared the champion on Tuesday, April 3. As if all this excitement wasn't enough, each vote enters the participant into a sweepstakes for a $500 Out of Print gift certificate.
