Before I knew how to cook, my favorite cookbooks to look at—both for the pretty pictures and for fantasy dinner party-planning purposes—were all by Ina Garten. And when I did finally start experimenting in the kitchen, she was there to help: Her recipes are simple and delicious—without fail, in my experience. (A favorite is Barefoot Contessa at Home.)

So I just about squealed when I learned she has a new book coming out on October 30, her first since How Easy is That? in 2010. This one is called Barefoot Contessa Foolproof, and it features her trademark tried-and-true simple recipes and cooking tips. Yum!

My other personal most anticipated fall cookbook is by a newcomer on the cookbook scene, although if you follow food blogs you almost certainly know her recipes. Yep, I'm talking about Deb Perelman of The Smitten Kitchen. Her cookbook is called The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook and it's also on sale October 30.

Perelman's recipes are also oh-so-tasty, and her food photography is gorgeous. I also appreciate how she emphasizes seasonal, accessible ingredients—and she prepares all her dishes in a tiny kitchen! It definitely inspires me in my own efforts.

Can't wait for October 30? Browse the recipes posted on The Book Case; read about 5 novels that make you hungry; or read about 5 memoirs for foodies.
