Another joy of reading is to discover a series from the beginning. And in the romance genre—with so many new books coming out each month—it can be tough to get a handle on the offerings. (Tip: Start with the BookPage romance column!)
Here are five September series launches that are sure to hook romance fans:
Close Enough to Touch by Victoria Dahl
On sale August 28 from Harlequin
The hook: Dahl's new contemporary series is set in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where a group of handsome men live in an old apartment building known as "The Stud Farm." In book #1, city girl Grace comes to town at the invitation of her great-aunt. She doesn't have any intention to stick around, but that's before she meets sexy cowboy Cole Rawlins.
The hook: The first book in Novak's Whiskey Creek series takes place in a small town at the the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. In the story, a big-time Hollywood celebrity needs an image makeover, so he stages a marriage with Gail, his old publicist. The two don't exactly get along, but things change once they move from Hollywood to Whiskey Creek.
The hook: The first in Castle's (a k a Jayne Ann Krentz's) new paranormal series takes place on Rainshadow Island, a sanctuary where Rachel—who can "detect the auras of dangerous psychic criminals"—meets Harry, "the descendant of a notorious pirate." Castle/Krentz (who also writes as Amanda Quick) is prolific and beloved. No doubt The Lost Night will soon be added to her list of bestsellers!
The hook: Book #1 in Galen's The Fallen Ladies series is a fun and fast-paced Regency story about Juliette, the Duchess of Dalliance, who witnesses a murder and is forced to locate some missing diamonds. The Duke of Pelham doesn't want anything to do with Juliette, until he discovers her true personality.
The hook: In author Saranna DeWylde's debut novel, Grace accidentally summons Caspian, the Prince of Hell. Not only that, but she ends up sleeping with the demon—and her mobster boyfriend is chasing her. Look for How to Marry a Warlock in 10 Days in October.
