Comedian Aziz Ansari, best known for his hilarious turn on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," is branching out into publishing. The Penguin Press announced yesterday that he's working on a book about modern courtship, with a tentative release date of September 2015.
Says Ansari, "You know when you text someone you’re romantically interested in and you don’t hear anything back and then you see them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram? That’s exactly what I want this book to deal with."
But while the book will certainly be infused with Ansari's trademark humor, Penguin Press VP and Publisher Scott Moyers says it will also have a serious side: Ansari will be "enlisting the aide of a formidable crew of experts, and conducting his own fascinating, and hilarious, experiments" in order to demonstrate how technology has permanently changed our courtship rituals.
"I’m delighted but not surprised that he is the one who is going to make sense of the strange new world that singles have to navigate today, one with powerful new tools for connection, which are also hideous new sources of shame, anxiety and obsession," says Moyers. I think the world needed this book at least two years ago, not two years hence. Here's hoping this is a pub date that stays on track! Are you looking forward to this one?
